How to Improve Your Credit Score with Us

If you’ve been left with bad credit, poor credit history or have no credit history at all, you may have experienced problems being approved by banks or lenders.

What is a credit score?

A credit score (sometimes referred to as a ‘credit rating’) is a way that financial institutions such as banks or lenders determine your creditworthiness.

Given as a 3-digit number, usually a score out of 999 will be on your credit file. Though the total maximum available score will also depend on the credit reference company in use.

Your credit score will be calculated based on your credit history, plus your financial history as a whole.

How do I check my credit score?

There are lots of credit score report providers. This includes the likes of ClearScore (for your Equifax score), Experian and Credit Karma (for your TransUnion score).

These services are usually free, but if you want a more in depth report you may have to subscribe and pay a monthly fee.

You can found out more about how to check your credit score and what it means in our helpful blog: How To Boost Your Credit Score

Worried about a poor credit score?

If you find you have a poor credit score, don’t worry.

At Fair for You we look at more than just your credit history to make a decision. We do carry out credit checks, but also look at what kind of payer you are now rather than just focusing on your history. We won’t turn you away based on the past.

We may ask you to provide bank statements through our open bank partner oohMoolah. This safe and secure process helps us to make a quick decision on your application.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that if you are currently struggling with credit you are unlikely to be able to borrow from Fair for You until your circumstances change.
